Cheeseman Farm, Portersville, Pennsylvania 16051Posted: June 13, 2007The Pennsylvania State Beekeeper’s Association summer picnic will be take place on Saturday, July 14, at the Breakneck Campground Lodge at Cheeseman Farm, Portersville, Pa. 16051. The web address for the facility is www.cheesemanfarm.com. Beaver Valley Area Beekeepers Association is the host club for the picnic. The main speaker for the afternoon will be Maryann Frazier with an update on Colony Collapse Disorder at 1:00pm. Directions:From I - 80 Exit 19 B onto I-79 South. Continue South for 20 mi and Take the PA 488 EXIT#96 toward Prospect / Portersville. Turn LEFT onto PA 488 / E PORTERSVILLE RD. Continue 6/10 mi. on PA 488 to US 19 N. Turn right onto US 19 N. for 3/10 mi then Turn Left onto Chessman Road. Continue 1.4 mi. to Breakneck Campground on the Left. From Pa Turnpike Take Exit 28 on the PA Turnpike and merge onto I-79 N toward Erie. Take the PA 488 EXIT #96 toward Prospect / Portersville. Turn LEFT onto PA 488 / E PORTERSVILLE RD. Continue to follow PA 488 for 7/10 mi. to US 19 N. Turn right onto US 19 for 3/10 mi then Turn Left onto Chessman Road. Continue for 1.4 mi and look for Breakneck Campground on the Left. Everyone will have a chance to meet the Honey Queen at the picnic. The rules for the baked goods contest are below. There will be a covered dish lunch at noon. Hotdogs, refreshments and snacks will be provided by BVABA. Please bring your bee veil and a folding chair. Several interesting speakers & demonstrations are planned beginning at 1:00 p.m. so come early and plan to stay late. Bee hives will be on site for hive demonstrations including mite control, queen marking and making summer splits. Attendees will be invited to participate in round table discussions at 4:00 p.m. on beekeeping topics. We invite beekeepers who have 10 or more hives and did not suffer significant losses this year to discuss their beekeeping techniques. Camping is available at the Breakneck campground and at several facilities in the Portersville area. McConnell's Mill State Park and Moraine State Park are only a few miles away.
