Minutes from PSBA Business Meeting

Lee Miller, President opened the business meeting held on November 14 at the Country Cupboard/Best Western in Lewisburg.

A motion was made to dispense with the reading of the minutes as they had been published previously in the newsletter.

Treasurer report was accepted pending the report of the audit committee.

Audit Committee, Helen Kirk, reported the books of the association were found to be in order. Motion made to accept her report. Seconded

The Queen Committee Chairperson, Linda Hackenberg, introduced our 2010 Honey Queen Teresa Bryson. Our 2009 Queen, Maya Althouse, will be representing PSBA at the American Beekeeping Federation, Orlando Florida in January. We wish her luck.

Stu Mathias reported on the Farm Show Committee. Honey is needed to sell at this years show. Jim Hoover will in charge of the extracting demonstrations. Tom Jones has the Marketplace and Warren Miller is doing the scheduling for the Learning Center. Lots of help is needed for all three areas. Stu reported that the auction at the Banquet was $1988.00. This is the largest total ever. A big thank you to all who helped make this possible.

Jim Bobb, President of EAS, stated it was a wonderful meeting and time. The 2010 meeting will be August 2 to 6 at Boone North Carolina. Everyone is encouraged to attend. Jim Blasko, our Director, sent his report, which will be published in the Newsletter.

Mark Antunes said that 4 separate runs were made to irradiate equipment. To date no AFB has been reported in this equipment. There is interest in making another run.

The Web Site was discussed with Alan Coble, Mike Thomas and Glenn Bachman on the Committee.

The 2010 summer picnic will be held July 23rd and 24th hosted by the Northwestern Beekeepers Association. Charles Vorisek said it would be held at Asbury Woods Nature Center in Erie. There will something for every one of all ages. More details will be coming in the near future.

The 2011 summer picnic will be hosted by York County Beekeepers.

The American Beekeeping Federation will be held January 12th to 16th at Orlando, Florida. They have a great program planned and all are encouraged to attend.

The following motions were made at the Executive Board and passed at the Business meeting:

Motion made for a discretionary fund for the officers to spend as needed. All four officers must be in agreement.

Motion made to reimburse the Director to EAS up to $200.00 for travel expenses.

Motion made to reimburse Jim Bobb and Dave Hackenberg, delegates to American Beekeeping Federation up to $200.00 each for expenses.

Motion made to give $500.00 to the FFA Scholarship Fund.

Motion made to support the following:

American Beekeeping Federation $100.00

Eastern Apicultural Society $50.00

PA State Council of Farm Organizations $100.00

Penn State Agricultural Council $50.00

FFA Scholarship Fund $500.00

Motion made to have a meeting with Dennis Wolfe to explore funding for beekeeping projects and allow the Executive Board to spend up to $2000.00.

Motion made to contact American Beekeeping Federation to hold their 2012 meeting in Pennsylvania.

Motion made to contact EAS to hold a future convention in Pennsylvania, not to coincide with ABF.

Motion made to give a first-time beekeeper free registration at the 2010 fall meeting.

Motion made to have an additional room reserved at Country Cupboard for the 2010 meeting November 12 & 13, 2010.

A motion was made to accept all motions. Seconded and passed.

Tim Sterrett, Chairman of the Resolutions Committee, read the 2009 Resolutions.

The nomination Committee, Dave Hackenberg, Maryann Frazier and Glenn Crimbring presented their slate of officers for 2010. As there were nominations from the floor for 2nd vice-president and while the votes were being counted we took a break for lunch.

Motion was made to raise the salary $500.00 to the newsletter editor and $500.00 to the secretary-treasurer with future years cost of living raise to be according to the Federal Government standard. Seconded and passed.
